The Fenian Rising
In 1867, the Fenian Rising took place in Ireland. This was an attempt by the Irish Republican Brotherhood, a revolutionary group known as the Fenians, to overthrow British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic.
Legacy
Although the rising was ultimately unsuccessful, it sowed the seeds for later movements for Irish independence. It also led to a greater awareness of the Irish question in Britain and internationally.
