Baltic Exchange and Teebane bombings; political parties seek new frameworks

The Bombings

In 1992, the IRA carried out two major bombings in the UK. The first was the Baltic Exchange bombing in London on 10th April, which killed three people and caused significant damage to the surrounding area. The second was the Teebane bombing in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland on 17th January, which killed eight people and injured six.

Political Impact

These attacks led to renewed calls for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland. Political parties on both sides began to seek new frameworks for negotiations, leading to the Downing Street Declaration in 1993 and eventually the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.
