The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure and the Strengthening of the Welsh Language's Official Status

In 2012, the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure came into force, significantly strengthening the official status of the Welsh language. This was a landmark moment in the history of Wales and the Welsh language.

The Measure, which was passed by the National Assembly for Wales in 2011, made Welsh an official language in Wales. It also established the role of the Welsh Language Commissioner, with a remit to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language.
