The Great Conspiracy: coordinated Pict, Scotti, and Saxon attacks overwhelm frontier defenses

The Great Conspiracy

In the year 367 CE, the Roman frontier in Britain was overwhelmed by a coordinated series of attacks by the Picts, Scotti, and Saxons, an event known as the Great Conspiracy.

The Attacks

The attacks were well-coordinated and simultaneous, catching the Roman defenses off guard. The Picts attacked from the north, the Scotti from the west, and the Saxons, a Germanic tribe, from the east.

The Aftermath

The Great Conspiracy marked a significant turning point in Roman Britain. The frontier defenses were severely weakened, and the Roman hold on Britain was further destabilized.

Tribe Direction of Attack
Picts North
Scotti West
Saxons East

The events of the Great Conspiracy set the stage for the eventual end of Roman rule in Britain.
