Hallstatt B period: increasing use of iron and complex social hierarchies

Hallstatt B: The Iron Age Begins

The Hallstatt B period, around 1000 BCE, marked a significant shift in the Hallstatt culture. The use of iron became increasingly prevalent, replacing bronze as the primary metal for tools and weapons. This transition is often associated with the beginning of the Iron Age in Central Europe.

Social Hierarchies

Along with the technological advancements, the Hallstatt B period also saw the emergence of complex social hierarchies. Archaeological evidence suggests the existence of elite classes, possibly chieftains or tribal leaders, who had access to the best iron tools and weapons.
